This month we did clomid. I just saw my OB and he suggested doing clomid and a iui next month. Here is my question does my DH need to come to the doctor with me for the iui or can he do "it" in a cup that I just bring that day for the insemination? My DH works crazy hours and it is hard for him to take off. He actually said to me "for this I would take off!" He knows how importnat it is. But I was just wondering. Thanks!

It depends on the lab. Some labs allow you to bring in the sample and others require it done at the actual clinic.

Most REs don't have a problem w/ DH putting them in a cup & bringing them to the office so long as it is w/i an hr. DH can't wait longer than that. Also, it has to arrive to the lab an hr before the IUI so that they can do the wash.

Usually you should know about a day or two beforehand when your IUI will be. If your doing OPK's you can kind of guess based on the progression of the line how close you are getting to a surge. When I did my IUI's I came in on day 12 or 13 and had an u/s and a trigger shot, and then the next day was always my IUI.

For me, when we did the IUI, I triggered on Sunday @ 9pm. On Monday I went in for my 1st IUI which was done at about 1pm. Then I went back in on Tuesday & had my 2nd IUI done at about 11:30am, almost noon. Sperms that have been washed normally last about 6-8 hrs b/c the semen is no longer there to provide them protection & nourishment.
