I'm not entirely sure exactly when my retrieval/transfer is but it'll be sometime around the very end of Oct to the beginning of Nov. I have a pap smear scheduled at the beginning of Nov. I was wondering if that is a bad idea. Assuming I'll have the transfer or retrieval before that appointment, is it something I should reschedule for an earlier date before the egg retrieval? I think it's part of my physical that is required for my school. I do have the ability to get it done on the 24th of Oct but only with my primary. I am not that comfortable getting it done by a man, but if that's my best option, I will do it.

So I was hoping for your opinion.

Hi Twolf..... I don't know the answer to your question, but if it were me, I'd move the appointment. I always feel like its not a good idea to mess around down there before something so important. Especially with a history of miscarriages like you have I wouldn't want them scraping my cervix in case it made it open back up or something.

Good luck.....

I would move it. You dont want your cervix to be irritated at all. Better to be super safe than sorry!

I would move it. I wouldn't even do it until after pg or this round if possible. Why scrape precious cervical cells when you need all you can get!

My doctor called back and said it should be ok, but I am a bit uncertain about it. I'm thinking I should try to find out when my RE thinks I might be doing the retrieval/transfer....assuming Oct 9th's appointment (baseline ultrasound) goes as expected. If I don't have the retrieval or transfer by then, then maybe it'll be ok. But once I go through the retrieval, I might be mighty sore there. if they do the transfer very soon before then, I might be really nervous about it. But if I am not expected to do either until after that pap smear's appointment time (Nov 5), then maybe I'll not be so worried. It'll just be the poking around the area that'll be a bit painful.

I am just expected to do this for school. It's a requirement to get these physicals done before I go into my externship which will be in the middle of Nov.

a little update, my RE nurse called me and told me that she wants the Paps done before the follistim injections. If I can't get one then, then wait until after I know I'm pregnant. Do it sometime after that.

Ok, THAT makes sense now and I feel much better getting the answer from her. So, I'll be moving that appointment for later. I'm due for one in the end of Oct, but I'll just have to wait.
