So, when we found out this baby was to be a girl, I was very certain I wanted to name her something to do with Helen, as both of my grandmothers are Helen. Since 4 of our kids are named for Dh's side, 1 for mine, and 1 for neither, I decided it was my turn again. DH is fine with this plan. I read and research and decide that Galina Grace is the perfect choice. Galina means Helen in Russian (we both have Russian degrees) and we don't have a G name (we don't reuse initials). Grace is obvious and is the name of a good friend of mine. The kids liked it and began using it. DH didn't care for it. Then after a while, I got kind of tired of it. But we couldn't come up with anything I like better, so we posted a poll to my homeschool group, our FB friends, and our families asking for suggestions using these two qualities: has to involve Helen, cannot have AKOCQR as a first letter. We got almost 50 unique responses.

We narrowed those down to two, which I posted here. Galina Grace and Tessia Helen (Tessia is beloved by God in Polish, I am Polish). And then we kept swinging back and forth on which one we liked better, each of us being on a different name. And a couple of my Spanish speaking friends pointed out that Galina is very similar to the Spanish, gallia (or something) that means chicken. If we lived in Canada or Wyoming, that might not matter much. But we live in North Mexico and I didn't want people thinking we named her "Chicken". So Galina was going a little sour to me.

Then one day I went to my friends' 50th wedding anniversary party. They had friends from Holland there to celebrate with them. The husband, a man, got up to speak. He said his name is Henny. Now I got to thinking. His mother didn't care that his name meant girl chicken in English! So why should I care that my Russian name means something a little different in Spanish. This is what makes language fun! So, I was coming back around to Galina. I walked into the baby room and noticed the stuffed animal my BFF gave me as a gift when we first got pregnant this time. IT IS A CHICKEN! So, I thought, clearly, this is the way to go.

Until I wrote all this and looked at Tessia Helen again. I might be swinging back the other way again!

I like them both.

You could always do what we did with #3. Refuse to make a decision at all, while the poor Social Security lady calls me every single day so she can finish her paperwork. Finally on day 8 she said she was registering her as Baby Girl T### if we didn't decide right then, and so I blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

We had it narrowed down to two names when we had number four and just decided when she was born. Maybe she'll seem more like a Galina or Tessia.

As for the chicken issue I think it's pretty cute actually.

I like both of them too! I think you should wait and see what she looks like when she is born. (Like Mamajessie suggested) That is what we did with Shane. It worked out because he just couldn't have had any other name!!

Well, that appears to be how it is going to go. A part of me is looking forward to it. I have never done this before! Hard to say with a #7!

I'm for Galina....

Though it is similar to Chicken in spanish it's not SAID similar....Gallina in spanish is said "Ga-yeenah"....

Looking at Galina I say it "Ga-Leenah"....so to me it's way different....And even if it isn't...I think it is pretty!

Tessia is pretty too...not sure how you say it. Good luck!

We aren't to give a baby milk, berries, or peanut butter. We are to introduce new foods one at a time. But it's OK to inject several viruses, bacteria, aluminum, formaldehyde, phenoxyethanol, animal serum, mercury, squalene and more into an 8 week old? I don't think so.
In order to be healthy it is an unfortunate fact that people must be allowed the opportunity to be ill. I trust my body and those of my children to work correctly against the relatively benign diseases they vax for, and do not trust the ingredients in the vaccinations.
Our choice to not vax isn't based in ignorance, poverty, conspiracy theory and rumor. It's research, common sense, fact and evidence based..something the medical community has largely forgot about.

Im partial to Tessia but of course I have a Tessa

Mira's is named for the Latin word Mira NOT the spanish word "look" We catch crap from our neighbors who think it's funny we named our daughter look. I could give two poops though. They have terribly ill behaved children no matter what their names are

I am still partial to Tessia But I wouldn't be disturbed by the "chicken connection" that Galina has.

btw, a hen is the same in english and dutch. And it works for both genders. I would be willing to be that the Henny man's real name is Hendrik, they do names differently over there than we do.

He never said his full name, just a familiar one. Learn something new every day!
