The only time my water broke on it's own was with the twins. I was getting up off the couch to go to bed and it broke.

Wow. That was convenient.

I have never had my water break on it's own.

With the first, I was in our living room on the couch and it marked the start of labor. With the second, I was on the bathroom floor in labor. With the third, I was in the front passenger seat of the van, about to get out to go into the maternity ward, the third to last contraction (we didn't make it to the room). None of them involved large, messy, gushes of fluid ... well ... not at first

A birthing pool must be awesome

With my first and second and fifth it was broken at the hospital. With my third it broke 4 days after my due date and nothing happened, and with my fourth it broke at 1:30 am in bed, I was only 32 weeks and again, nothing happened (but we were still at the hospital 15 minutes later because you don't know at the time that nothing is going to happen).
