has anyone ever had one? apparently, the second day of school after the holidays is "toy day" and the kids get to bring their favorite toy they got for christmas.

i think it's a terrible thing to do. really. you look at all the kids whose parents can't afford stuff this year and then they have to take their toy and have other kids with awesome toys...for example. my dh isn't spending more than $10 per kid this year which means my kindergartener is most likely getting a box of colored pencils and a coloring book. so she'll take that to school and see other kids bring toys that she had wanted for christmas. then she'll come home all sad because santa brought it for them, but not for her. santa is evil i tell ya. we even told the kids last year that santa is real and they still think he is. *sigh*

I would contact the school and bring this up with them. None of my 4 ever had that in school at all, so it seems to me that it's the teacher's bad idea.

That seems like a terrible idea. Not just because of the reason you mentioned, but because kids are going to bring their favorite toys and risk losing them or having other kids break them.

A recipe for disaster.

I have never ever heard of that! Our school district won't let kids bring toys to school at all, EVER! It's even in the handbook.

I agree that you should probably contact administration on this one and make sure that they have approved this.

I agree with everyone else. It is a bad idea. If the school won't change the "toy day" then I think my kids would be staying home that day.

And this is another reason we don't do Santa. I would definitely not participate in toy day.
