Quick history on my in-laws. They are not doting grandparents. They are busy, tennis playing, world traveling, rowing club, ski club, bike racing grandparents. Average run of the mill, right? It is actually my FIL and his wife. They literally live 2 miles from us and we rarely see them because they are so busy. We speak to them a few times a month - if that.
When I had jury duty I wanted to stop in to say hello to my MIL. (She works at the court house) I was told she was on vacation. (Huhh??) Then I hear from one of my dh's cousins that they are not only on vacation, but out of the COUNTRY! My FIL was doing a bike ride through Sweden. Wow, thanks for telling us.
Then, last monday I got a text from my SIL that said: "PopPop's surgery went well and he is resting in room #211" Dh knew nothing about it either! Apparently, my FIL had his knee replaced and we never knew a thing about it.
Yesterday, my dh's uncle (FIL's brother) was asking Kelsey about whether she had a car. Kelsey said NO, and uncle says that maybe her pop pop would give us his car, because he has an extra. Again, I am like - HUH? What is the extra car? Then the uncle tells me that my in laws bought a brand new mercedes and now have an extra car. At this point I have decided that we don't know them at ALL and I give up. They don't tell us anything.
Can I just get a normal set of doting grandparents? Can you buy them anywhere?
My in-laws live 3000 miles away but are the same. We always find things out after the fact. Dh's sister is a flight attendant so they fly for free. We haven't seen them in over a year even though they could visit us any time since they are both retired. They make several trips a month. I just found out they are visiting my SIL for Halloween and they were just there in May It's hard not to take it all personally.
Why are people like that...my mil takes my husbands ex wives "kids" only 1 his my dh's and has nothing to do with mine anymore, I know we live far away, but she was close to my dd and now nothing....she came out here to pick up my ss 3 weeks early cause that is what his mother wanted but she told me she couldn't bring my son home cause she had to work....uggg...i could go on and on about inlaws.....
