Kelsey got her order packet for her class ring. wow - I can't believe she is a junior. She informed me that the ring costs $300 and she doesn't want one. She never wears jewelry, thinks they are ugly, and would never wear it. That being said, part of me feels like she should get one anyway. Thoughts?

Did you get a class ring and did you wear it?

Did not get one. Never even thought twice about it. I know no one now who wears theirs. If she is saying "no, thanks" then go ahead and listen. Maybe get her something different to commemorate her graduation that is actually distinct and special to her. What a racket.

I had to pay for my own cap and gown rental. Needless to say class ring wasn't in the budget. Which was kind of a sore spot for me because my dad was alive when my half sisters (his step daughters) were in high school so he was able to buy them rings. But things were pretty far downhill by the time I hit high school so I couldn't get one.

That being said, they are pretty ugly and realistically when the heck would I ever have worn it after high school? I am also not a jewelery gal and if it wasn't for the jealousy aspect of it, probably would never have given a class ring a second glance.

I got one....meh, didn't really wear it enough. I would tell my kids not to get one, and get something a little more unique.

I think she's making a good choice.

I got one from HS and from University-never wear them. She can always order one later. Save the money for something good.

Mine said the same thing and changed her mind the next year. I have literally watched the prices go up. My oldest cost around 200, the next year it was 250, then the following year it was over 300. Same style, and metal. I have one more to go, who knows what it will be this year.

And no I never got one.

I got one.. and wear it up until I got my promise ring from DH.

That being said.. mine didn't look like a normal class ring. I got it from a local jewelry store and looks like a regular ring.. just with the year and my name and my school carved in it.

My mom did get me a class ring, from walmart for like 100.00, and I did wear it every day and a few years after H.S. I still have it! Mine was very plain looking, had my name and year I was graduating and my H.S. name and my birthstone.

We got a brochure with quite a few designs. Some didn't even look like a classring.

Maybe take her to walmart and see what they have there but if she really does not want one then see if she would like a necklace or something that would be a symbol of her graduating.
