This was from a friend of mine who witnessed this while working out at the YMCA. I thought it was sweet and wanted to share....
One day I was having a rough day.. just one of those days when nothing seems to work out in your favor.. nothing particularly bad, just little things... well I was bound and determined to get my ME time in at the gym that day. During the last part of my workout I spend a lot of time on the Elliptical.. I work up a really good sweat.. Looking a little bit like a crazy fool... so I'm doing my thing.. reading my magazine, listening to my ipod, watching the tv screen attempting to read the closed captioning.. when in walks this couple...
They have to be in their 80s... They remind me of my grandparents... He is walking nice and slow, arm in arm with is wife..who is using a cane and wearing an ankle brace. He takes her coat and hangs it up, helps her take off her brace and ties her shoe back up.
The next thing I know she is standing on the treadmill, and he is on it too.. the same treadmill. He gets it set up for her at a nice slow pace and he is standing behind her, feet on either side of the moving piece to keep her from falling off as she limps along. They did this for over 20 minutes and he just stood behind her. He never looked around, he never got off.. he just stood there, supporting her, helping her, protecting her.
When she was done he cleaned off the equipment for her, gave her her cane, and helped her put on her coat. He gave we some water and they walked out hand in hand.
They honestly made me cry while I was supposed to be working out. I had to get off of the machine and compose myself.. imagine that site.
I came to the realization: This is what a marriage is, this is how you are supposed to become. Find that person who you are willing to stand behind on the treadmill, or who you know will stand behind you.
