Clean out the toy boxes?

Do the kids help or do you wait until they're not around?

about every 6 months but it should be about twice that often. The kids know I am doing it but I do it myself.

2 or 3 times a year. I do it without the kids, I have a few packrats so I can't have them around if I want to get rid of anything.

We do a big purge before Christmas every year. We don't really have toy boxes though, everything is locked in the storage room in separate bins (one for cars, one for dress up clothes, one for toy dishes, one for dinosaurs, one for barbies, etc.) I rotate different bins out into the play room, so they only have a few out at a time. Makes it more manageable for them to clean up, not as overwhelming as having ALL the toys in a major disaster all the time.

We just did this today as in I MADE the kids get rid of stuff. We don't have toy boxes, just shelves in their rooms. If it gets put in a box, they never play with it and should be given to someone that will. Now my stuff on the other hand is another story. I try to clean stuff out before Christmas and then around June since we have a lot of Summer birthdays.
