A man in San Fransisco is circulating a petition to ban all circumcisions (even for religious reasons) in the city of San Francisco.
Would you support a similar ban in your area? Why or why not?

Here's the article -

No, I wouldn't sign it.

I am personally not for it, but I say everyone is free to make that choice for themselves and do what is right for them.

No, that is for the parents to decide.

I'd sign it if somebody came up and asked me to but wouldn't go seek it out.

I wouldn't. I believe it's a personal decision. We have both in my family. I don't believe in piercing babies ears but I wouldn't sign anything to have that banned either.

No I wouldn't sign it. I think everyone has the right to decide on their own and we don't need another law butting into our personal decisions. And besides... I had both my boys circumcised and if Savannah had been a boy she'd have been circumcised as well so obviously I'm not against it.

Even if I was against circumcision I would not sign it because it is a personal decision that each family should have the right to make.

i dont agree with the practice but i would not sign. Many people feel very strongly that for religious reasons it should be done, who am i to tell them that their religion is wrong?

I wouldn't sign it. Both of my boys are circumcised and that is my decision. I don't feel that it is anyone else's business but the parents.

I wouldn't sign it. We do it for medical reasons and I'm not about to stop others from doing it.

I'm with the majority here. I'm against it but would never sign anything that took that choice away from other parents.

It's important to keep in mind that only the United States and Israel have high rates of circumcised males. In most countries around the world, male circumcision rates are extremely low, and the concept of male circumcision often seems cruel and unusual. People in the US don't usually question circumcision, but in many foreign countries it is viewed as a worst case scenario medical decision.

Keep in mind that while some people will argue that this is a parent's decision, others will argue " it's their body, and it should be their choice". Either way, it's a very personal decision.

Obviously, I wouldn't sign such a thing. I would give the petitioner a piece of my mind, though, about personal sovereignty and rights of parents. But I do hate the day we do it. But this went extremely well. He didn't cry and didn't bleed. Day 8 is no joke. If you find yourself due with a boy, and you believe in getting the circumcision done, read up on it. My OB office is very willing to do it if Day 8 falls Mon-Fri 9-5. Thankfully, all our boys have. But #5's Day 8 fell during a hurricane here, so he didn't get done til Day 10. Lots more blood and tears. Day 8. Seriously. And I am not Jewish.
