What are the laws in your state/city/town etc regarding cell phone use while driving?

Our state just passed a law that took effect today - no hand held cell phone use at all while driving. It's a huge fine if you get caught too.

Personally I think it's a stupid law. I think they already have a law against that - it's called INATTENTIVE DRIVING! That means putting on makeup, eating, playing with the radio etc. Why get specific to say cell phone use?

Just wondering how it is where you are.

I'm not sure if there's a law in my county....I think it's just a secondary offensive. They can't get you for unless you were caught speeding...or something. I think SLC has a that same law you do....but I'm not sure.

As for what I think about it? I think it's good. I can't tell you how many times I've almost been hit by some dumb person talking a phone and not paying attention. I do sometimes use my phone, but I try not too and a lot of times, if I must, I pull over.

In our state there are no real laws, we can talk on the phone but texting falls under the inattentive driving laws. Just recently a few counties have made laws that are directly related to texting. But since I don't text and drive it doesn't really bother me.

The whole of Australia has a hands free rule i think. No driving holding a mobile. I think its a great rule. Lots of people still do it though. .

It's been more than a year that the law has been in effect here; but I think they need to bump up enforcement and in fact, I think they should impound a vehicle if you're caught.

There is NO excuse for it, ever. There are plenty of hands free options, and if it's that important, pull off the road!
My life, and the life of my family or friends is more important than the idiots who choose to use their phone while driving.

Recently I posted this on Facebook; I think people really need to stop.

I know in Virginia it was No texting while driving and hands free if you were calling someone.

In Michigan I really don't know. I know that Wisconsin just had something go into effect I think it was about texting. I would have to ask my sister. I drive through Wisconsin to get to work. lol

I don't text while driving and if I call anyone I use speaker phone or headset.
