Today I went & picked out my new front loading washer & dryer.
When the kids & I moved into my SO's house, I gave my washer & dryer to a needy family since he already had a set and his were not even 4 years old yet. Of course, when he bought his set, it was just him in his own home, which meant minimal laundry, so he bought lower end top loading models; that set paid for itself many times over going from laundry for 1 to laundry for 6 lol
It's starting to show it's wear though. The dryer is perfect, but the washer is starting to have an issue where it's not hitting a full speed spin that gets all the excess water out of the load, and sometimes I have to run 2 or 3 spin cycles; this makes keeping up to laundry quite difficult.
I had been doing research on front loading washers & dryers and narrowed it down to Samsung, or Whirlpool Duet models, so I decided to hit Lowes this morning.
I saw a Whirlpool Duet set that I really liked, so I wrote down the model numbers and prices of both the washer & dryer, and came back home to do some more research. Part of that was price comparisons.
I found the exact same models at Leons (I'm in Canada) for $99 cheaper per unit than Lowes was selling but I refuse to spend any money at Leons as their service before, during, and after sales sucks; I printed the pages out, and headed on back to Lowes to price match.
The service from Lowes was awesome and I had no issues price matching my set, so a savings of $198 straight away, plus excellent service, and they do all the moving/installing (wait till they see the hallway & stairs with 2 narrow turns!).
Anywho, here is a view of my new toys that will be arriving on Thursday Sorry about the picture sizes lol - I did not get the pedestals (not seen in the pictures) as the laundry room is not on a main floor, and I'm short so there is no need to raise them up lol

Wow! I got a WP Duet pair when we moved here 18mos ago with peds, but yours looks fancier! Wowza!
FWIW, I'm absolutely in LOVE with my Duets and they get alot of use, obviously. They literally hold double of what my first smaller front load sets washed, double!

I'm really looking forward to finally being able to keep caught up to laundry; I will only do laundry when it's during off-peak times to save as much energy as possible, so when I was working, that meant my weekends were filled with constant trips up & down the stairs trying to get as much done as I could. But when the washer is having a clutch issue and I have to try to do extra spins, which also means a longer dryer time because the clothes are more damp than they should be, it was such a hassle.
Although I am home during the day now since being off work, it now cuts into time that I would like to be spending getting side projects finished - I just have the baseboards to install in the half bath, and some touch ups, so that will be one renovation project done at least lol
I set aside 2 boxes of tide free powder (40 loads), and a bottle of liquid tide (32 loads) that I won't be able to use in the new washer since they are non HE as I will be sending them to work with my SO to give to a co-worker who has 5 kids.
I was purposely adding HE detergent to my stockpile in hopes for a new set, so I have 7 full bottles of laundry soap that can be used with the new washer
I purposely had the delivery set for Thursday as I need to completely clear out the laundry room of the shelving that I use to store sheets, blankets & pillow cases. I am thinking about possibly relocating them though as the new set is a few inches deeper than the old set and it may not work to have them installed there anymore. I can probably put them in the area above the deep freeze instead, so we'll see.
Lots to do starting tomorrow... makes me need a nap just thinking about it!

tbh if its on sale I will sometimes buy the non he liquid soap, I just use less-and my set has a feature where it stops if there's too many suds until they die down, then it keeps going. Its never let me down yet. But I'm talking a REALLY good soap sale, otherwise I use he soap

Out here when there is a sale for a brand such as Tide or Sunlight for example, the HE stuff is at the sale price too, so it only made sense to stock up on that one since it can be used in a non-HE machine.
I'm ok with donating the unopened non-HE soap as I know it'll certainly get put to good use for the family we're giving it to, and I know that they will appreciate it as well.
Now I just need to find the energy to get started in the basement... ugh

If it's too expensive you can make your own soap. I spend about $12.00 for a month's worth of soap. It works SUPER awesome too. I don't need to buy the boosters for laundry anymore like oxy or tide because this stuff already has pretty much the same stuff in it. I'm a fabric softener addict though so I still buy lots of 'flavors' of those lol

Hmm, I think the last time I spent $12 in laundry soap, it was for a few months worth lol
I haven't bought laundry soap since September last year, and even then I picked up 6 bottles of Sunlight for about $9 (32 loads per) - 3 were free (coupons from the manufacturer) and the other 3 were on sale for $4.29 & I had three $1.50 off coupons

I think the only laundry soap that compares in price here is that purex stuff, but then I use a lot of bleach on the whites and those boosters in the colors.
If Sebastian doesn't take his diaper off during nap at ALL during the week (lol) I'll do on average 35 loads of laundry a week. So that's about .08 c a load. Either way I was just letting you know that it's safe for your washer

After having my new set for a few days now, I can say that I'm extremely pleased with them; it took almost no time to get every stitch of laundry done!
I also decided to do a few calculations (I love math) to see just how long my laundry soap stockpile will last. It only takes a tablespoon of soap to do a load of laundry in the new washer (shocking!), so with the stockpile of HE soap, if I do 1 load of laundry a day, I will not have to buy soap until October 2013, and even then I would have about a month of leeway to buy.
This has got to be the best purchase ever
