Just wanting to hear water breaking stories. I think I remember reading that only 10% of pregnancies end up with the woman having her water break before any signs of labor.

So if it happened to you, where were you?

Out of the 11, only with one did my water break before labor began, and luckily it was at 2 am on the potty. Labor kicked in full force about an hour later.

With my 10th baby, exactly 3 years ago today - my water never broke until after she was born - it was the coolest thing ever - she was born perfectly in the caul and we had to 'peel' it back to see her face.

OMG, didn't even know that was possible!

My water broke with my twins. I was taking a nap just after I told my DH that I can't go on another day because I was so very uncomfortable. I thought I peed the bed so I got up to go the bathroom and there was a puddle in my underwear (my pantyliner was holding it in there). By the time I yelled for DH there was a huge puddle on the floor. It was a crazy amount of water to me. I heard a lot of people saying it is a big gush only on TV but it's not like that if your water really breaks...but it was a big gush for me, just like TV. I ended up being induced because my labor never started on it's own.

JCM -- My mom was born that way. My g-ma called it her veil. She said that the old wives tale was that those born with a veil over their face had a 6th sense.

I've never had mine break before labor (or even before getting to the hospital) but if I did it would probably be worse than TV. When I had Milly they broke my water to speed things along and it just kept going and going to the point I soaked through the pads and it overflowed on to the floor. Both my Dr and my nurse were like "Holy Cow, woman! Is there even a baby in there!"

I think the only time it didn't gush everywhere was with my 4th.

Water broke spontaneously with #1 at 35 weeks while I was sleeping. Labor didn't start within 24 hours so they induced me with him as well.
All the others they broke my water during labor except for RJ it broke on it's own, and he pretty much flew out after that. DH almost missed his birth because he was getting lunch lol

My water broke in it's own with #3 - what a mess!!!

I was staying over at my step-father's place that night because he was 10 mins from the hospital and we just felt that it would be easier & safer that way.

I had stood up from sitting on the couch & the baby dropped so low that I stood there afraid to move for a moment & said to my stomach "are you going to just fall out?". My step-father flew out of his chair that he was having a mini-nap in & said "that's it, we're going in!" lol

We went in & I was admitted around 10pm as I was leaking very small amounts of amniotic fluid and I was 4cm although I was not having any contractions that bothered me in the least. If things had not progressed by 9am, they would get it going there anyway, so to my room we went.

They did the usual checks on me & the baby, determined that things would be quiet for the night, so my step-dad went home. For clarification - we lived almost an hour plus from the hospital, so my ex (we were married back then) was home with the two we already had so they could get their sleep.

Anywho, I dozed off, and woke up suddenly in the pitch dark after a loud pop woke me up; I was soaked!!

I got out of the hospital bed & tried to make my way to the call button on the wall, but they had changed it's location since I had the first 2 babies, so I soaked the floor all the way over to the far side of the room, and then back to near the bed as my eyes adjusted enough to find it.
I got the light on & the bed was soaked, the entire floor was soaked, and I was still leaking.

The nurse came in, saw the mess & said "yep, we need a mop" while smiling, which made me laugh & make more come out. She laughed & told me to just stand there until it stops since the floor had to be cleaned anyway.

Baby number 3 arrived 3 hours after the flood lol

My first water break was with #2. I was getting ready to go to a doctors appointment and went to sit down on the couch. I'd been crampy but nothing more then a few cramps here and there. Since I had an appointment I figured I would wait and talk to the doc about it. I didn't make it to the doctors, within minutes of sitting on the couch I felt a leak, 20 minutes later my DD was born at home on my grandmas couch. After that because of our location I was never allowed to go into labor on my own. However, #6 and 7 were stripped. My problem is that I don't have cramps until I am over 5cm, with #6 the first twinge sent me in and she was born about 30 minutes after walking in the hospital. #7 my water broke at home. I honestly thought I had pee'd myself. My older kids thought it was funny that I couldn't tell LOL. We went to the hospital and within an hour he was born. My last one was my longest labor, right up there with number 1..about 18 hours but she entered the world on her own. She still made it exciting and her birth record says "self delivery" cause when the nurses came running in she was laying on the bed and I didn't even notice....the epi didn't work and the pain was worse then any of the other ones.

With #1 and 2 they broke my water during labor a few hours later they were born.

With #3 my water broke in the morning and when I was 40 weeks 4 days, and nothing happened so I was induced the next day, easy peasy, 4 hours start to end.

My water broke with #4 while I was laying in bed, when I was 32 weeks, nothing happened either, I was induced with her 4 days later.

They broke my water an hour before I had #5, worst hour of my life.
