I had my first birthchild at 19 after already becoming a stepmother to 3 children half my age. Now when I go to college graduations and preschool round up all in one week I go from being the youngest mommy/grandma to the oldest mommy. Mind you I'm only 33 does anyone else experience this and how to you answer those always awkward questions and looks from good intentioned strangers?
I don't like being an older mom. Most young moms annoy me now, whereas when I was the young mom, I loved having older moms to talk to. I still need older moms to talk to, but their kids are all grown now.
But as for your question, just smile and nod. Unless you want to point out that you are a step, let them think you were some kind of hoochie mama. My friend does that with her step son and gets a kick out of the faces as people try to do the math.
We had our first when i was 18 and then we have a 7 year gap due to infertility issues followed by 5 more kids 6 years. I actually had someone ask where the father of my oldest was. poeple often assume my husband is her step father. I try just to laugh it off. People dont usually mean anything by it just their curiosity getting away with them. And we all suffer from foot in mouth disease sometimes.
