We are having a big family reunion where they are planning on camping out for 3 days. My DH will NOT be coming. He has an apnea machine at night and his idea of camping out is a hotel room. Anyway, I've really been going back and forth on whether I want to go or not. My oldest just turned 12 and my youngest just turned 1 so I'm going to have to keep a close eye on everyone.

Has anyone else ever gone camping without their DH and a bunch of kids?

Alone? Meaning no other adults present? If thats the case then no. I have gone up without the husband w/ other people though. I like camping cause the kids find a lot to keep themselves entertained. I actually find them easier to deal with.

I have 6 between 1 and 12 and I don't think I could ever do it. Or want to, really. Chris went fishing and left me with the kids for a while out of each of the three days we went fishing last month and it wasn't so bad. The kids tend to amuse themselves with chasing lizards, playing in the water, etc. But having a second adult is pretty important when it comes to cooking times or bathroom runs

Of course I was on my period... so that wasn't fun at all, lol... but I, personally, wouldn't want to do it alone.

There will be lots of adults there. I think about 50 of my extended family will be there. My parents are even coming during the day.

I haven't camped but I do travel a lot without my husband. In some ways its actually easier. But it would depend a lot on you older kids I think.
Be prepared to be exhausted.

I've gone out with the kids alone before but we're in a thirty foot unit, not tenting and I don't go dry camping-I need power and water.
If you have family help I say go for it

I would go if you think you can get a little help and company from the other adults. I love camping! So far my dh has always come with though.
