One of the Deacons at my church called to ask if I could take in some kids. Their mom was arrested under drug and prostitution charges, and they possibly need a permanent change in their living situation. My gut immediately said yes. But then I found out there are 6 kids. They are between the ages of 5 and 12. Goodness. I JUST DON'T KNOW! My house would increase exponentially in levels of crazy! And we only have one (maybe two) open bedrooms. I haven't said yes or no yet. But this might be about to happen. Please keep me in your thoughts- our life might be changing BIG TIME in the very near future. I would hate to see these kids get split up.

WOW!! What a great opportunity to help, but I can certainly see how that would disrupt your life at home, too. Definitely a lot to consider. Praying you come to the right decision for everyone.

That is a huge increase!

Do they know for how long? I mean if you are just going to be a temporary stay till they find something permanent I would do it. Long term, I may need to think on that one.

Good luck, those kids are lucky to have good people helping them out!

Wow!! That's a big change. I can't give you any advice because I would be caught in the middle of wanting to and being terrified to all at the same time. Such a hard decision. Praying it all works out!

WOW!!!! I would take them in a heartbeat. Dh and I have talked about adopting sib sets so that they would not be separated. I'm sure that will be a huge change in your world, but what a wonderful thing that the dc's worlds won't be as drastically changed in that they can stay together.

I would totally do it short term. Long term would take serious prayer and thought. Best wishes as you make your choice.

That's a huge decision! I could see doing it short term, but I personally wouldn't be able to do it for 6 additional children. Keep us updated!

That is a huge responsibility good luck with your decission. Those children will definately need a loving stable home to help them break the cycle set by their bio mom.

If you do agree will the church assist you?

Many prayers as you are considering this decision. I think it would be wonderful if you help the children in this way

Wow that is a big decision.

I'm with FW on this one, short term sure. Long term, I'm not sure. You would want to make sure you have a lot of support in place, moneywise and even domesticated wise. I took in my 17 year old nephew this spring, and he's just one and he's older and he is a good kid, but he's A LOT of work. It took a lot of patience from my other kids and they required a lot of extra attention too.
Hats of to you for considering it, good luck.

Thanks everyone for your kind words! Very encouraging when everyone else looked at me wide-eyed for even considering it! Our church was able to help find them an arrangement that is hopefully better off for everyone. There is a childless couple who is taking guardianship and there is a government program that will pay for them to go to boarding school together. It's an option that the mother of the children got VERY excited about since she feels the education and location change will help give her children opportunities she couldn't give them. I am so happy to find a solution that seems to make everyone happy! Looks like I don't need to go shopping for a 12 passenger right now after all, lol.

Go ahead and shop for it, though. You never know if this was a trial run for something!

And how can I get in on that boarding school help?
