Ok, first of all, I don't need a lecture about being on government assistance and having a large family. I know I won't get any flak off of most of you, just thought I'd throw it out there.

So, I applied for Medicaid and Food Stamps after I got pregnant. They have everything messed up!!

For one, they didn't approve me retroactively - and they are having a hard time finding out why. I'm waiting on a lady from the office to call me back (my regular case worker NEVER returns my calls and I always end up having to talk to this other lady). They also have our income down wrong - about $600/month more than it actually is!!! If it was that high, I wouldn't have applied for food stamps in the first place. Want to know how much we were approved for?? $6/month. Yes, 6. Per month. Why even bother? I wish she would hurry up and call me back.

She had to go pull my folder and look through it so she could try to figure out what is going on and I haven't even had a chance to mention the income discrepancy yet!

I swear this kind of stuff happens to me EVERY. TIME. Ergh.

Sorry I'm kind of all over the place with my story. I'm so annoyed.

Good luck. Stay on top of them, they don't make anything easy. Call back if they don't return your call within 24 hours. Its awful. Sorry they messed it all up.

$6, is that a joke? Why would somebody even both approving you for that ridiculous amount?

I don't think you need to be ashamed of providing for your family, unless you're stealing off shelves or doing something else illegal. You should never have to defend yourself for feeding your kids on $6 a month so you can keep the power on for them.

You can't even really make a MEAL on $6.

Keep on them, and hopefully they'll straighten it out soon.

you know what sarah? even if i thought it (which i don't) i would not be the one lecturing you or anyone else. those programs are there for a reason, and if you need them, that's good enough for me. my daughters' got all screwed up since she married -- she has lost everything again. trying to sort it out is taking forever!

They screwed up our application too. It took 2 years to get it worked out. But once it was worked out, they gave us 5 times the amount that we had been spending on groceries (I never realized how LITTLE we ate because of money). My husband had to take a week off work to get it all worked out. He spent every day that week in the office. It's sad how horrible that system is run. But our mentality is that was his second job, trying to get assistance. Our family puts in about 5-10hrs/week keeping up with food stamps/WIC/Medicaid and making sure our accounts stay up to date.

I'm new to this thread but we have assistance also and I'm currently pregnant. People will judge you but what do they want you to do? Let your kids starve.? They have messed up mine before also and it took them almost a month to get it right. We had no food that whole time and barely scraped by. It happens often and they take forever to fix it. I had to stay on them to get it fixed.

Here it is Tuesday and I am still waiting on this woman to call me back! I think I am going to bug her again ...

So I am on hold again and the lady had told my case worker last week to call my and she never did.

Success!!!

Looks like somehow the system skipped over the fact that I was even applying for retroactive benefits, and as far as the food stamps goes, it was somehow adding in an extra $519/month income that was still in the system from back in 2010! So, it should be all straightened out today or tomorrow and she said I might get some extra back paid benefits. Phew!

I know! I can't wait to find out how much we will be approved for. I checked my case online, and they haven't finished yet. She said it will be today or tomorrow - we'll see.

Well, it looks like we were approved for $130/month in fs. Not what I was hoping for, but better than nothing for sure.
