to take a weekend away--just you, a few books and no children without DH?????? This advice was given tome and after I thought about it I realized it might be a good idea. We need time to rejuvinate. I don't know about you but I neglect my needs far too often and my family is the one who pays for it.

Yup!
Although for me personally, I would LOVE a weekend away with dh and NO kids. I get too much time away from him (due to work) as it is. I would love the extra time to reconnect with him.
I see nothing wrong with getting away for yourself for a few days

May I suggest:
1. a beach weekend (relaxing in the waning days of summer)
2. a hiking weekend, to walk away the stress! and finally
3. a retreat weekend, where someone else does the cooking and cleaning and
you get to talk to new and interesting people !

Hope you have a good time!

I think in theory it's a good idea. I know I would love to get an entire weekend alone sometimes. But I know if I did, I would be thinking about the kids, wondering if everything was going okay, etc.

I dont know what I would do with time to myself! I think it would get to quiet after awhile.
It would be nice to share a trip with a friend....

Heather, I know just what you mean there!! When dh was home in June, we had a 2 day getaway alone and it was wonderful to reconnect and just spend good quality time alone.
