Hi ladies. I have been on JM for the past 10 years (tho i haven't posted in a while) but never came to this board. So, hello! Anyways, altho I only have 4 kids, youngest being 3 months (not sure if that is considered large), I'm not sure if I am preggers right now or not (haven't taken a test yet). I work full-time at a lawfirm that gives us full paid benefits and they are really flexable with hours (esp for moms). Altho, I know I am needed at work I am terrified that if I am preggers with my 5th that they will fire me or at the very least make rude comments. i know legally they can not fire me for having another child but I also don't want them to not like me because I have 5 kids and am using up the insurance. I know I must sound nuts (esp since I don't know if I am preggers). Trust me my boss has more money than he knows what to do with and I'm sure he doesn't care but I can't seem to stop getting so nervous about it. DH and I are NTTC but will welcome another baby. Have any of you women ever gotten nervous about what work would think? TIA!!
No, I haven't had a job in 17 years. And my husbands company insurance is the same family coverage for one kid or ten. So they appreciate us getting their money's worth! But it will work out. Don't worry. Fretting never helps anything! Good luck!
Lurking here, as I don't have a large family - but I felt the same way about work, especially since all the "big bosses" only have two kids. This is the third maternity leave I have taken since starting where I work 5 years ago. I feel bad about it too and worried about what they, most importantly my boss, would say, even though I know technically that I still qualify for my great FMLA through HR.
But everything has been great, and my boss has not looked down on me or anything, other than to say he doesn't know how I can handle it all and that he is impressed.
While I work because I love it, its also because I have to as primary money maker in our family. But still my family and babies have to come first and work must be second. My boss understands and promotes that. It sounds like yours does to. I think its great for them that you worry about it, and as a boss, I would be thrilled by your worrying, but it would have been all for nothing.

I was nervous when I got pregnant with #5. I started driving a bus so I could take my kids to work with me. However, they have to be 2 to ride the bus. We can only miss 8 days a year and with that many kids, I am often cutting it close. I've had issues with babysitters for the baby and had a day where I called my boss and said my babysitter canceled right before work and was told I had to be there. I lucked out and a friend helped me find someone who is now his permanent babysitter. But it is nervewracking working for a company that doesn't seem to understand that my kids need to be my top priority.
