I have just started to incorporate this..... The "Not me" is going into retirement and I no longer ask whose mess it is. I state I see something that needs to be done and if whoever is responsible doesn't do it then they all get a time out then clean the mess.

I agree with the above. I give appropriate chores per age of the child - regardless of who made the mess. If I know for a fact which child made the mess then that child cleans it up by his/herself, but if I don't know I split up the chores to approprate amounts per age and go with that.

If Tyler, who is twelve, is responsible for picking up the living room, and Gracie half empties the toybox in the floor, he may ask Gracie (who is 4) to help, but he is responsible for the clean living room. I get the same whining here.

Everyone helps clean up. I try to give age appropriate chores.

Here we get "how come I have to clean up, I didn't make this mess" to which of course I reply "how come I do your laundry" "how come I cook your food". Everyone here has to pitch in too.

Most definitely...I've provided them all with play-buddies (each other), and they love it. One of the quirks is that they all have to help clean up...no doubt about it. Obviously, DD #3 and DD #4 are a blit limited, but even they try...
