Why did you become a vegan, and was it hard?

i became a vegan bacause i am super against the industry. the dairy industry is a brutal, explotive and unhealthy way to treat animals. the more that i researched it, the more it turned me off, and i had no problems giving up dairy for life.

the poulrty industry is another abonimation, and for laying birds their lives can be hormonally riddles, and cruel.
that being said, i have no problem with people buying farm eggs, because these are happy healthy generally free range eggs, and i have no problem with people supporting this.

there are humane ways to support the dairy industry as well, and goats are some of the best treated animals as well. i just think we should be weened, as dairy is very mucus forming, and unnessecary.

when i became vegan, the first thing i had to do was to learn how to read labels. of course most of my food is whole and un processed, but when you read lables, it may seem innocent. but the amount of animal products that they hide in food should be enough to turn anyone off. Vitamen D3 is cow parts, some preservatives come from animal, white sugar is passed trough a bone filter, and it goes on and on and on.

the more i researched, the more i was turned off to how much the food indusrty is a force not to be rekoned with. they will try to slip things in EVERYWHERE, and before i knew it, most of my favorite things where wiped off my menue.

but since having done that, i have found some amazing alternatives, and everyone will attest, that the variety in my cooking is amazing, and endless.

i dont use those fancy meat alternatives, nor do i use those dairy alternative. they are all riddled with salt and sugar and preservatives and transfats, and i can do a better job than that.

so it started as a moral fight, and now it is a health issue of knowing what i am eating, and where is came from.

i wish that everyone could start making better choices, and stop supporting industrys with bad farming practices. if people want to eat meat, i hope it is wild game or karmatically raised animals. if people want to eat eggs, then i hope the farmer with the conciounce gets the dollar, and if people want to eat/drink dairy, i hope it is the cow or the goat living on the range, who needs the realease from its udder, and not because of the growth hormones.

sorry everyone if this seems like a preachy rant, i am however very passionate of this, and i belive that us as consumers can make a difference in some aniamls lives by boycotting unethical farming.

To be a dork, I'll say that it's not as hard as feeling guilty about the abuses in the dairy, poultry and meat industry...but it's true. Everytime I get a little sick of being vegan, I think about how hard it would be to go back!
