Well, I was running my race and late in the evening I ate some grilled cheese that the race volunteer made and then became very sick. I battled nausea for hours upon hours and halfway thru the race I withdrew (also, the weather got freezing cold and rainy and i had already done 75 miles and was happy with that). Well right before we left some volunteers came to say good bye (this was a return trip to this race for me) and asked me if i knew that all the food was cooked in BACON FAT???? They thought I knew! ***???? OMG! No wonder i was so ill. I have not eaten meat in like, i dunno, 18 years? I was so stunned I did not say anything (which i regretted) but was totally appalled as they bought vegetarian food for the vegetarians including burritos, piergoies, boca burgers, etc. I was just horrified. I finally just ate some plain pasta and salt and feel less ill. I am just blown away by this!!!
I know. It is just bizarre. I will say we were in a more "rural" area and they probably did not even think twice about it I was ok with dropping out, the weather turned nasty, so it would have been miserable any way, LOL. Now I get a day home to prepare for next weekend (DD's 2nd bday, MIL coming, etc).
Considering it was a race which would be considered fitness, etc, why the heck would they cook with one of the unhealthiest things on the planet????? It is just stupid and brainless on their part in this age when there are so many dietary issues let alone differing lifestyles when it comes to food.
