I dont know what steel cut means?
I just cook regular rolled oats in water and a little bit of vanilla bean paste, add milk later, and top with brown sugar, and sometimes carmalised bananas.

I make this and have never burned it. I use different fruit depending on what I have. I usually cook it 5.5 to 6 hours and then let the crockpot sty on warm until we get up.
My kids also love this baked oatmeal.
I also grind oatmeal into a course "flour" and use it in muffins. These are my favorite and a recipe I came up with for my gluten free and dairy free family members.
