I'm Mandy, and I've been a JM member and am the previous host of the TTC w/PCOS board. Since I divorced my ex, I have become a vegetarian and am planning to marry my (also vegetarian) boyfriend, Matt, this summer. He has a 3 1/2 year old son who I will obviously be step-parenting. We are NTNP and will be TTC with increasing deliberation in the year to come. I am planning to start FertilAid supplements and lemon juice detox next month.
I have had several discussions with Matt and friends recently about raising kids in vegetarian households...questions such as when do you allow them to choose for themselves, do you make 'no meat' a clear instruction to teachers and/or other parents on playdates, etc.
Also would just love tips on nutrition and supplementation during my eventual pregnancy...I have heard of tell of things such as uncontrollable cravings for chicken during pregnancy from my veg mama friends, and am curious to hear the experiences of others.
I had zero meat cravings while pregnant but have been veg for over 20 years! LOL
DD is raised veg, vegan in the house. We made it clear at her school. Her first school was all vegetarian and organic food served, but i brought her soy milk since they drank cows milk at lunch. Her new school does not serve lunch and snack is graham crackers or ritz crackers. They had a strict no sharing policy for lunches due to food allergies so it is not a big issue. She is old enough to realize that not everyone is vegetarian and i explain that we do not eat our friends (animals are our friends) and she seems pretty content with it. We had one bday party where they served chicken nuggets and her friend with her was veg too, and they were too busy to even notice, but i did have a momentary panic. I usually ask before a party if there is a vegetarian option and offer to bring one when i ask. One party they were just going to do pepperoni pizza but got her some plain as well.
During my pregnancy i did eat some dairy because i had a lot of food adversions, but that about it. FertilAid is really good stuff and besides extra folic acid, unless there is in Fertil Aid, i forget, you should be fine.
