I was talking to a fellow vegetarian and she told me that eating too much soy can make you sterile. I am 23 yrs old and have only been a full vegetarian for 7mos. I don't have any kids yet but would like to start planning for some in 2 yrs. For those of you that have been vegetarians for a lot longer have you heard this and what has been your experince.
There are some mixed opinions out there, and I am not sure completely what to believe. I will say this though. I am a 4th generation vegetarian. My grandparents, great grandparents, Mom, never really ate soy products, so that doesn't even HAVE to be a part of your diet. I on the other hand started eating soy products at about 14 years old. With both of my pregnancies, I got pregnant within the first month. My DH at the time of my last pregnancy had been eating soy periodically for about 5 years at the time also. To be honest, I really don't know what to believe in regards to this claim, I have heard it before. My DH would say, EVERYTHING in moderation. That would probably be the best step. Soy is in MANY things that you are probably currently eating as well. Soy though is definately NOT a necesary step in vegetarianism.

I'am a vegetarian and have been since I was a kid..I have soy almost every 3-4 days and a 3 and a half month old daughter(unplanned...we wanted a 2007 baby..did'nt know one shot could do the trick..but glad we have her).
It may give you constipation but sterility? I don't think so..but hey if you have doubts have it in moderations.
