Well ladies, I made it home!

Madelyn Rae (baby A) was born 11/29 at 3:35 at 5 lbs 9 oz and 19 inches long. Malia Joy (baby B) was born at 3:36 at 5 lbs 13 oz and 19 inches long. They both had some breathing difficulties after they were born. Malia had the hardest time though. They worked on her for 30 minutes by stimulating her and giving her oxygen to get her breathe well on her own. After I was sewn back up I got to see both girls and they told me they would have to send Malia to the NICU but Madelyn would be able to go to the Level II Special Care Nursery. I wanted both girls to stay together, so I convinced them to take Madelyn to the NICU as well. They started to put the breathing tube in Malia as soon as I got to the recovery room and she threw the biggest fit and started screaming and wailing that it helped clear out her lungs and got her upgraded to the Level II nursery like her sister. I guess the breathing tube really ticked her off. So now both babies are chilling out in the Level II nursery until they are ready to go home. Thankfully their breathing issues have subsided but there are feeding issues that they are concerned with now. Both babies are pretty lazy feeders and they haven't been eating as much as they should so they both got feeding tubes put in today. They have started tube feedings and bottle feedings until they gain enough strength to actually feed themselves effectively. So unfortunately they weren't able to come home with us. We're hoping that they don't have to stay there long, and they can come home with us after a week or two, but we shall see. Hopefully the feeding tubes will help them get more calories to give them more energy to feed on their own. That's the goal anyways. As of yesterday, Madelyn has been taking 25% of her feeds by bottle and the rest by tube. Malia is a different story, she has been taking only 7% of her feeds by bottle. She is under the billi lights for her jaundice right now so hopefully that will wake her up a little. She wants to suck on the bottles, but she gets so tired out that she only gets about 7-10cc's at a time. It was a shock for us to have them go to Level II, but even though the girls were born at 37 weeks, they said that they still need time to adjust.

As for me, my c-section went wonderfully. Recovery is also not as bad as I thought it would be. Staying on top of the meds for the first few days and getting up and walking ASAP has helped a TON. I just have a little tenderness around my incision site, but nothing too horrible. So the nurses are telling me to relax and try to recover before the girls come home. It is easier said than done though... I miss the babies when I'm not in the hospital and I miss DD when I'm with the babies. I caught a little cold, so I'm going to try to stay away from the hospital for a few days. DH will be the breastmilk delivery guy until I feel well enough to go back. It should give DD and I some time to bond before the girls come home since I haven't really seen her in 4 days while I was at the hospital.

Here are some pics of the girls before they got their feeding tubes put in. (please excuse the crapiness of my cell phone camera).

This is Madelyn:

This is Malia

BTW, thanks to Carol (mudd) for updating everyone.
