Had my Plastic surgery consult today and it went good, I guess. The dr. said I am a perfect candidate for the tummy tuck because of the way my stomach looks and the diastasis and said it would be beneficial. She said that I had to come back next month and see the surgeon and he would have the final say, but he usually goes with her suggestions and we'll talk about the surgery and start the ball rolling. There are a few hiccups though... here they are...

1. I would have to pay around 4000 out of pocket because the military will cover the actual surgery and the surgeon and stuff but won't cover the small things that go with it like anesthetic, pain meds, and a few other things. So that is a kick in our pants. Especially with DH thinking about taking the job with the pay cut. This is still WAY cheaper than going to a civilian but still a lot for us.

2. There is a wait list. I asked how long and she said it could be up to 9 months because of the reconstructive surgery on the soldiers. I have 0 problem waiting if it means a soldier gets his reconstructive surgery. Problem is we might be getting out at the end of June and I am not sure how this will affect things. If we don't get out we'll probably be PCSing this summer to a new duty station. I am going to ask the dr. if the approval will follow me to the new duty station. They said that someone could cancel a surgery and that I might be only given a weeks notice or a months notice that I am up for the surgery. I think this will be more clear to me after talking to the surgeon.

3. I won't be able to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk for 4 weeks....4weeks people!!!!I have no clue what we will do. DH can't take off for 4 weeks and we said we thought we could hire someone to come in and help, like a nanny or something. Still though that is MORE MONEY we don't really have.

so there are the hiccups. I am already super stressed from it all. It won't correct itself and is causing me back pain and other issues, but how in the world are we going to work this out? The only solution I can come up with is to get an estimate from a civilian dr. and if it isn't too much more then to pay out of pocket for it and schedule it when DH will be on terminal leave. I just don't know. I AM SOOOO STRESSED!!!!!!!!!!

Hugs, hope it works out for you. Especially since it's causing you pain, if it was purely cosmetic I'm sure you could wait, but the pain has got to be bad

I'm really sorry you're going through all of this. Bottom line is that you're in pain and need to have it done. I would find out how much it will be through a civilian doctor, like you said, just so you have maybe another option to consider. There has to be a way to get this done, it may just involve some creativity to get the time during the 4 weeks covered and the insurance/payment worked out.

I really wish I had some good advice for you on it ... I hate dealing with insurance companies and I know it's even more stressful when you're also talking about job changes (especially going from military to civilian). Huge (((((HUGS))))) to you during all of this.
