I posted this in my PR, but it makes more sense to post here I think. Jamison has been biting his brothers and I don't know how to make it stop. His brothers do not bite and when it happens they just start screaming. He usually leaves a pretty good welt. They are 19 months old. My doctor suggests putting a dab of tobasco sauce on his tongue, but I'm not sure about that. I have been trying time outs, but that doesn't do much good at this point. Anyone have any experience and care to share ideas?

We had that months ago from Arya, but she outgrew it quickly. I'm sure we'll get into it again at some point. I don't have any ways to help, but hopefully someone else does and I can learn ahead of time what to do.

Arthur has been my biter recently, I just keep reinforcing that its bad behavior. I don't do tabasco, nor do I bite them back. He usually gets a handslap and a time out, he's really offended by both. Nolan did this for awhile, then stopped fairly quickly, E never bit, and neither has Theo. Maybe somebody has some other ideas.

It's so strange b/c he bit several months ago, like maybe 6 mo. ago and then grew out of it and now it's back. I thought we were out of that stage, but I guess not. My kids are really oral and put everything in their mouth. I was surprised by the tobasco sauce, but if I did that, I'm not sure he'd associate it with biting and then I'd have to carry tobasco around everywhere and I'd probably just end up raising a kid who likes hot stuff and never makes the connection My grandma said back in the day, they'd bite them back, but I'm not doing that. Maybe they will understand time outs soon enough.

we have hair-pullers here, intentional hair-pullers. we do the hand slap thing and remove from the situation. it doesn't really do any good -- they just crawl back over to the other one and start again.

as far as tabasco, nope! too young in my book. i did that for bad language when my daughter was much older...a spoonful of vinegar worked much better and was less harmful.

vinegar, hey? Gonna keep that in mind

Arthur was also biting about 4 months ago when teething, then he stopped, and now bites with a vengeance--if he's mad at any of the kids, he glares and takes a chomp! Its kinda cute, since he's the youngest, and the one they all pushed around-now they're scared of him! Of course we don't let on that we think its cute, lol! And he's never bitten myself or dh, he wouldn't dare! I'd prolly bite him back if he did it to me, but that would be more of a reflex I think

Owen is my biter, he goes through stages of it. Generally its because he is frustrated or upset, Rhys is the biggest target but he will bite Danika as well. We do the same thing every time. He is removed from the situation with a time-out, then a firm talking to and made to give hugs and kisses. And yes there are days it feels like he bites and bites but I think consistency works for us. Right now we are going through a stage with Rhys throwing things when he is mad...fun times!
