I was just wondering when you ladies stopped breastfeeding your mulitplies. My twins are 7 and a half months and they started eating baby food. But my freezer stash is getting low and I have to pump at school in the nurses office. I don't know how much longer I can keep up with them. So I just wanted to know when you other moms started supplementing with formula and what kind of formula did you use?
I had a bit of everything when it came to feeding the kids. For the first few months it was almost 100% BM, with just a little formula if I needed it. I went back to work at 9 weeks (DH is a SAHD) and had trouble pumping enough during the day for them both. It was close at first, and then started going down. I even pumped twice at night once they weren't nursing at night anymore, and I still wasn't keeping up.
By 6 months they were getting about 80% BM and 20% formula. Around that time also, Abigai stopped nursing all together. She was always my fussy nurser and since she was getting bottles all day anyway, I finally decided it wasn't worth fighting her anymore. She still got as much BM as her brother, but only in bottles.
I actually nursed Noah until somwhere between 11-12 months (when he started biting), and by then they were both getting about 50/50 BM/formula. I kept pumping until about 13 months when we switched them over to whole milk.
Basically, do whatever works for you all! As for the type of formula, mine were never picking and didn't have reflux issues, so we just used the regular formula. We started on similac, because the hospital gave us a case + some of the ready to serve bottles of that (which lasted us months since we were only using a little at the time). Then we switched to Enfamil, because when I wrote to them, they sent me 2 cases of the cans of powder. We stayed with Enfamil because I thought it smelled better than the Similac.

I nursed mine for 19 months, but I'm a SAHM. Neither was very interested in solid foods until around a year. They were eating table food by then, but still prefered breast milk. We only used a little formula in the beginning.
If you've given them milk for 7 months, then you've given them something awesome. If you switch to formula or mix formula with breastmilk, your kids will be fine. Do what works best for all of you.
Thank you peimum for my siggie
