I just had my first U/S and I'm measuring "around 5 weeks" (I'm 5 weeks 4 days for sure--I know when I ovulated). Well, the u/s tech said it might be twins. She said she for sure sees 1 baby but that she thinks she sees a second and to come in for another u/s in a week or 2 (I'm gonna wait 2 just to be sure). I have a picture of the u/s, but honestly, it looks like NOTHING to me. Can anyone see what about this U/S made her say it might be twins?

Thanks in advance. Twins don't run in my family. I don't know what's going on.

Well, I suck at reading u/s's so I won't even try. I mean I see a space between the 2 black blobs, but is that just the way the u/s was angled, etc .. no idea. I would say try to just relax over the next two weeks and see what happens. I would think by 7 weeks it should be pretty clear. I had my first u/s at 8w3d and there were clearly two. (I also know people who didn't find out until much further along despite several u/s .. but then again those u/s weren't specifically looking for two). I think in 2 weeks if they are looking for it, they should be able to tell whether it is one or two. No matter what I hope you have a healthy little bean(s).

They explained it was two gestational sacs. They called me in for another U/S today with a more advanced technician. He found 1 baby and 1 heartbeat, and the second sac was already shrinking and WAY smaller than it was two days ago. They say vanishing twin, and my body will absorb it probably without any bleeding. Other baby looks fine. Lost of mixed emotions: happy about the healthy baby, crying over the loss of the other baby.

Vanishing twin is so common. We jsut see it a lot more now because of early ultrasounds. I'm sorry I understand your mixed emotions. Knowing you lost a baby is just as hard if you are still pregnant as it is when you miscarry.
