In the words of my MFM, the "risk of spontaneous fetal demise" significantly increases after 38 weeks with twins...meaning stillbirth is more likely. Had I not gone into labor on my own, they would have induced me between 37-38 weeks.

^^^exactly. My water broke at 36w5d. I was getting very nervous about baby b and was super relieved. i felt like she was better out than in at that point. we were doing non stress tests and ultrasounds every week and i had no apparent reason to worry about her, but my mommy intuition wouldn't leave me alone. the type of twins makes a difference in when some Drs like to deliver. twins who share a sac will be delivered earlier. a shared placenta can also age quicker so early delivery with that isn't a bad idea.

Mine didn't set a time when he wold induce me by or anything specific, but said we would take things week by week and day by day. He did tell me that most twins do come early and to expect that in my planning. I ended up being induced at 36w5d due to preeclampsia. I know moms of twins who have gone to 39 weeks or more, but that does seem to be the exception and not the norm.

I was induced at 38 weeks. same as other reasons mentioned above - the risk of still birth goes up after 38 weeks. and as to the comment about if you haven't gone on your own ~ a lot of twin moms do spontaineously go into labor earlier or need to be induced before 38 weeks just because there can be so many more issues with twins - pre-e, sizes of the babies, etc. my last few weeks were filled with contractions that i had to work to get rid of. right up until the day of induction, then i had to really work to get the contractions going and the babies out
