This hole is at the bottom of the wall between two filling chambers and the defect also involves the valves between the filling chambers and the pumping chambers. The left sided valve may be very leaky and may cause early symptoms of breathlessness and poor weight gain.

This requires surgery. The hole is closed with a patch and the valve is usually repaired with sutures. Long-term follow-up is required and antibiotic prophylaxis is required for life.
