My dh's grandfather had a heart attack on Friday. So far he is doing very well, it was only a mild one, but the damage was all done in the left ventricle, which is rare, at least for the only place where damage occurs. He is having an angiogram done either tomorrow or Wed, so if you think about it can you say a quick prayer for him. Thanks.

Well, the good news is no further damage was done. The bad news, he had to have an emergency angio done yesterday becuase of severe chest pain! His blood vessels feeding the left ventricle were 95% blocked, so fortunately they were able to put the stent in and he didn't have to have open heart bypass surgery. The vessels for his right ventricle were 100% blocked, but he had already developed collateral blood flow to supply the right ventricle, so they are leaving that alone. As long as he follows the diet restrictions and quits smoking, he has very good chances of needing no further treatment other than monitoring. Hopefully, he will be home soon, but his femoral artery from the angio still was clotting well last night, so thats kind of problematic. He will be on blood thinners for life to prevent clotting around the stent, but of course, that interfers with all other clotting, so he wasn't clotting well and may need to have stitches placed in his femoral artery.

His femoral artery finally clotted without the need for surgical stitches and they released him late yesterday. He's staying with my MIL for at least a week, and is working on quitting smoking and changing his diet (thank god, dh was really worried he wouldn't quit smoking, he's smoked for sooooo long). I really don't like his cardiologist though, telling him some really bad things, like fine to return to normal activities after 2-3 days, but no lifting anything over 10 lbs for 2 weeks, okay to do dental work (mind you hes on blood thinners for life now) in a couple months, and just some other really stupid things!

We are soo relieved, but kind of aggravated because we haven't been able to see him yet. Things have just been so busy for us, that by the time we have any free time, his grandfather is sleeping, so hopefully this weekend we'll get over to see him
