Hi ladies, I'm Ellie, I'm 20, I'm in my first year of university, I'm engaged to my wonderful fiancee Stu and I co-host General Spirituality here on JM.

When I was born I was diagnosed with Transposition of the Greater Arteries and I had my operation at 5 days old, i was one of the first few babies in the UK to survive the operation I had as it was only available for around 5 years before that, it started out with a fairly low chance of survival. By the time I had it the survival rate was 50%, so I'm told, when it came to the operation I was frozen on a bed of ice before they put me out to help prevent my body going into shock. I was in surgery for between 9 & 10 hours. I obviously remember none of it, being so little, however I have lived with "being different" due to my scar, yearly check ups, and all the other bits that come with it.

So I just wanted to offer my ear to any ladies whose babies may have the same thing, and answer any general questions you have about how it may affect your child as he or she grows up, well any questions for babies with any condition in terms of living with a scar and the check-ups etc... the stuff the doctors can't tell you about.

I hope you don't mind me posting, I just felt I may be able to help out..

Thanks Stacy I will stick around I think I was very lucky, very very lucky. There is a bit more to my story given that the only place in the country performing the operation was my hometown, and the day my mum went into labour, the doctor that was looking after me went on a course specifically for diagnosing transposition of the greater arteries... it's kinda like it was meant to be!

Thanks so much for sharing your story Elle. I've often wondered how my daughter's condition will affect her as an adult. It's great to hear that you are doing so well.

Hi ladies!

I was also a CHD baby. My name is Brooke and I am 36 yo. I'm a SAHM to Blake(12) and Madeline(6). I was born with Pulmonary atrisa. The chamber that pumps the blood to lungs wasn't fully developed. I was always blue/purple and only got about 60% oxygen. I had 4 open heart surgeries through out my life. I couldn't not carry children because of my condition so my dh that I have been married to for 13 years, adopted our children from foster care. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I'll try to help the best I can.
