hey everyone I have been on JM for almost a year now, I joined while we were TTC our son (who was just born a couple weeks ago) well our 8 year old was JUST diagnosed with ASD this week. She has none of the normal symptoms (she is very active, gains weight well, eats CONSTANTLY, and is actually very tall for her age, she is 4ft 5 and 67lbs) so this was a complete shock.
We took her to her Ped in Nov because she was complaining of feeling sick and having some burning in her chest when she was running in gym class (diagnosed as heart burn). Well since this was her 1st appointment with this Ped when he heard a slight murmur he wanted us to go see a Cardiologist just to be sure it was nothing, like he assured us it was. Well its not nothing... she has a 3cm sized hole and the right side of her heart is enlarged.
I am kinda just numb now... I was really upset this afternoon when we got home since well they Dr mentioned open heart surgery and also because somehow this was missed over the past 8 years... and now I am just numb and confused... any insight you ladies could give me into this condition would be great thanks
I'm sorry they missed your daughter's ASD for so long My little girl was diagnosed while still in hospital after birth with a VSD and ASD. She is on medications but will likely need open heart surgery soon.
Gosh I feel horrible that I have been away from the board for so long. Im so sorry.
Im sorry your daughter was diagnosed with a ASD. My son was diagnosed in utero and had OHS at 3 days old. He is still recovering and will be 3 weeks tomorrow. He was diagnosed when I was 21 weeks along so I had plenty of time to prepare. This board is very very very slow, and I have found an amazing support here Babies and Children with Heart Problems - BabyCenter. If you ever need anyone to talk to feel free to message me. Big hugs mama!
