Open Heart Surgery

Isabelle had her five month cardio appointment today and her condition has worsened to the point of needing open heart surgery. Her cardio is sending her file to the surgery committee and we should find out in a week or two if they have approved her for surgery and when they want to do it.

This is my first time posting on this board. I am sorry to hear about your little Isabelle. I will be sending lots of positive thoughts to you and your family. What condition does she have?

She has a large VSD, small ASD (medium at birth but is almost closed), LSVC (she has an extra superior vena cava coming in on the left side), one pulmonary artery is half the size of the other, congestive heart failure. At her five month echo, we discovered the left side of her heart is now enlarged.

That is a lot for a little girl to have. I am glad that she will be able to have surgery soon to fix the problems. Marsi's heart is starting to enlarge because of her PDA. That is why she needs surgery now.

Her surgeon thinks the problem with her pulmonary arteries is being caused by the extra bloodflow from the VSD and should be okay once she has had some time after OHS. If it continues to be a problem, they may have to go back later and do a cath

Hoping it doesn't reach that point!

He says the LSVC isn't a big deal, it just means they have to adapt the bypass during surgery.

I am very nervous/scared but am trying to read up and make things normal so the day of surgery will hopefully be easier!
