We used to have a dog (a Yorkie), but we shipped her to my dad's after Aaden was born because she was a complete psycho (like, hiding under the couch growling for hours).
Before having Aaden, if we'd go anywhere, we'd send her to my parents house.
As for taking care of other people's pets, when the IL's went to Florida a few years ago, we had to go over and feed the chickens & dogs, but that was it. My dad's going to Florida in a few weeks, and I'll have to go over and feed the dog.

I haven't had a dog in about 6 years. My dog that I had from childhood died about 7 years ago and I had another dog after that, but I had to take him to my mom's house after he got kicked out of my apartment building for barking and then one day my mom gave him away without telling me because she was tired of him barking. Meanwhile, I was just about to move into a new place and have him live with me again....
DH wants to get Maddie a puppy after we move, but I'm not keen on that idea for a few reasons.
I've never watched anyone's pets while they were away, but I would. I love animals. Except cats, they make me sneeze.
We've always had cats. When I was growing up we used to put our cat in the cattery, but I hated it because she would always come back trembling and anxious and mistrusting. We usually ask family or neighbours now.
