Saturday, my mom, DH, Maddie and I went to New Orleans for the day. Here are some pics from the day:
Crossing Lake Ponchartrain...a really long bridge...but this bridge is only 1/5 as long as the longest bridge over the lake:
We parked and headed into the French Quarter. We had a po-boy sandwich lunch at a place called Johnny's and then wandered toward Bourbon Street. We spent a good 3-4 hours wandering around down here. Bourbon Street was pretty busy for being the middle of the afternoon and I wasn't too sure about taking Maddie down there. I really wish I hadn't....there were a lot of people smoking weed and we walked through some clouds of their smoke....I wouldn't take her down there again. We weren't the only ones with a child though, so I didn't feel too badly - but I really wish we'd have stuck to our original plan of my mom & I walking down there while DH took Maddie and went somewhere else for a few minutes. Here are some pics from the FQ:
Pretty soon, we headed to the Riverwalk mall along the riverfront. The Carnival Triumph was in port and we wanted to watch them sail away. The captain pullled out at 4:30 sharp - just in time for Maddie to fall asleep - and I got some good pics of it sailing down the Mississippi River.
My sweetie sleeping:
Maddie would say "BOAT! BOAT!" and sometimes "SHIP! SHIP!" She was really excited about it.
After the Triumph sailed, we headed to the Creole Creamery, an ice cream joint that has been featured on the Food Network, for some strange flavors of ice cream (I had pumpkin sorbet and shared with Maddie) and then we headed home. She was so tuckered out on the ride home:
