Whoo hoo its 2011! I have been waiting for this year for 12 whole months After almost no stop snow for 7 weeks we have had a break and it is now 58 degrees and sunny. Most of the snow has melted and surprisingly enough the grass is still green under all that yuckiness. My house is pure craziness right now trying to divide our household things from Brian things to go to Korea. And I am trying to get eveything back into the room it belongs in.

I can't imagine trying to pack and sort stuff for 2 moves at once. How is it that our husband's always leave us around the same time? Your DH was deployed at the same time mine was in 2009. He's going again this summer...we got official word on Thursday that his volunteering for it was accepted and assigned. Though your DH will be gone much longer than mine will.

Not much going on here. Focusing on getting my weight back in check and not eating things that aren't good for me. I really ballooned up at the end of 2010. I look at pictures of me from Christmas compared to about a year ago and I am so much bigger! Yuck. I had to break down and increase our weekly grocery budget to accommodate being able to eat a salad and smoothie every day of the week. It'll even out though, because once DH deploys, the bill will go down by about half. Gee, wonder why.

Yay, Allison!!

All of the south got a huge snowstorm yesterday. Not us though. We're about 20-30 miles south of the extent of the freezing rain. Now it's just freezing here. It was in the 60s all last week and 40s this week. Can't complain though - it could be worse! I gotta say though, since we're right on the Gulf of Mexico, the air is so humid that even in the winter, the cold feels much worse than what it is. Still, it doesn't feel like single digits or below zero, so I'm good. And I can still wear my flip flops even though my feet are cold

DH isn't coming home from work today for lunch. It's going to be weird.

Stephen and I are finally joining the 21st century and we're getting smartphones. Verizon had a pretty good deal going...he already gets 15% discounted off of the first line through the government employee discount program and every family plan that upgrades the secondary line to a smartphone gets a $10/month credit on their bill for the life of the 2-year contract. We were able to get the same voice plan we have now, but with unlimited texting and 150mb data per month for not much more than what we were paying for just voice.

What's everyone been up to?

That's so exciting, Tonya!! I love new phones!!

Not a lot is going on here. Just getting the house ready for my friend's arrival tomorrow. My dad & I have to pick her up from the airport tomorrow morning, and I'm insanely excited about just going to the airport to pick her up.

I'm stalking my front porch today. I ordered Aaden a Graco Nautilus yesterday, and it's being delivered today. I'm pretty darn excited about it, and really hope it solves the drama we've been having lately with getting him in his car seat.

I love when the delivery man comes. He came a lot before Christmas, but now I haven't seen him in like a month lol. It took me about 8 months before I decided I like my Nautilus. Actually, what got me to decide I like it was that I had to pull it out to be able to transport 3 adults in my car out to a casino one night and I went to re-install it the next day and it seriously took 30 seconds. DH installed them when we first got them and that was the first time I'd had to install it myself. We've had Graco, Evenflo and Britax seats in the past and I'd have to yank and tug and sweat and cuss to get them to go in tight enough and it was like a 10 minute ordeal. I put the Nautilus in and prepared to do the same....I latched it in on the sides and grabbed the strap, put my knee in the seat and pulled with all my might...got out to see how much it moved and it moved maybe 1/4 inch. It was seriously easy peasy! Easiest install ever....but the crotch buckle constantly sticking and the twisty straps still piss me off! Hope the seat solves some of your issues!

Long time no see ladies!

Tonya & Allison I will have to get more ideas on car seats from you guys in the next few weeks. Our two seats that fit great in the Audi don't fit in the Escape that I am borrowing. And since the Caravan had built in seats we only have these two. What do you all thinks makes more sense. Buying a car to fit our car seats or buying car seats to fit a car? We have to buy both anyway.
Only 11 more days until the big move. Not sure how much I will be on after Monday. It will depend on the wifi situation in the temporary housing we will be staying in.

How has everyone been? What's new and exciting?

What car seats do you have? I'd personally buy a car and then worry about car seats later...though if you have it narrowed down to 2-3 cars you like equally, I'd then pick from those which one is the most car seat friendly. No matter what car you get, Radians are usually small enough to fit in anything, but they come with a pretty big price tag too.

I have a Graco Nautilus and it has some quirks....the straps get twisted around pretty easily and sometimes I feel like the buckle is stuck, but otherwise, it's a pretty darn good car seat. It's the only seat Maddie should need for the rest of her car seat years. Once a child is 4 years old, 40 pounds and 40 inches tall (all 3 criteria need to be met), you can remove the harness and use the seat as a high-back booster if they are able to sit without slouching and are mature enough to sit without playing with the seat belt or buckle. Then when they are bigger, you can take the back off and use the seat as a no-back booster. One car seat for each child and then you never have to buy another car seat again unless you get in a wreck, in which case I think insurance replaces them.

You can find a lot of good information from this page about it fitting into your car for combination seats and boosters:

HELLO! (yes, I'm yelling )
We are still here in Germany for a few more days. All we seem to be doing is eating like pigs trying to go every where one last time. Good thing I have been going to Zumba 3 days a week.
Have any of you ever tried Zumba?
By this time next month I should have our next cruise booked. Just waiting for DH to get to Korea and find out when he can take his 30 day leave. DH & DS seem to think we should go on the Carnival Dream. Yuck, I have zero desire to be on a ship that size with that many people. We are set on Carnival because it's the only line that has programs for our LO's.
Do you have a favorite Carnival ship? I'd love some ideas.

and Tonya, Quintin will never be 40 inches tall so we might never get into a booster.

Maddie is already right at 40 inches...maybe about a half inch shy....but she's weighed between 30 and 32 pounds for the last 18 months. In fact, she can still wear the pants she wore last year because her legs are still pretty short, but this year the waist doesn't fit without a belt to hold them up! She didn't have that problem with them last year, I was actually concerned she was going to outgrow the waist and need even bigger sizes, without needing the length of the bigger sizes. Now, forget it. This kid is super skinny.

I always tell people looking to take a Carnival cruise to look into taking the Legend. The itinerary is outstanding and the ship itself is so wonderful. The layout is such that it never feels crowded except for one area where bottlenecks happen near the casino. It was hands down the best ship I've been on in terms of layout, decor, entertainment and food. And they have a glass staircase 10 stories up in the atrium...when you walk over it, you feel like you're floating! That just gave it another cool point in my book.

We're preparing for what they're calling a "historic winter storm" consisting of an inch of ice, and then 4 to 6 inches of snow on top of it. Everyone is in panic mode.

Better get to the store to get all the milk and bread you can find. LOL I don't think I've ever gone to the store to buy those particular items before a winter storm.

I've been really busy lately. I've taken on some volunteer work with the gulf coast autism group. We're organizing a trivia night fundraiser and I'm so excited and nervous about it. Trivia night fundraisers are huge back home, but when I mention them down here, I get a blank stare and a "What is THAT??"

Also been busy with the gym. I'm down 9.4lbs this month and about 2 inches smaller around my abdomen. It's nice to have my clothes fit again and to see the 160s. It's been too long since I've seen them last, a little more than a year.

Got a lot of ladies night out things coming up too. I've never really been a social butterfly before, so it's weird to me to be so busy. I love it though!

How's the move going, Melissa?

This storm going through the mid west is going to be ugly. In northern MO they are expected to get 10-15 more inches of snow and .5 inches of ice. Yuck.
I just hope this doesn't affect our travel plans. My IL's want to meet us on our layover in MN. We have an hour and 35 minutes between planes...not enough time to leave security, visit, eat, go back through security, and board our next flight.
Moving is going okay, everything has come together in the last few days. We are in Temp. housing and its sooo boring. There isn't a whole lot to do in the local area this time of year and even less with out a car. Oh well just a few more days and I will have plenty to do buying a car, finding a house, and looking around our new city.

Allison- you have at&t right? About how much do you all pay? They seem to be the only national carrier in Anchorage, and would love to hear your thoughts on them.

I went yesterday morning and stocked up on everything, and then went again this morning and got a few things I had forgotten. The ice is currently in St. Louis, so it should be here sometime this afternoon. Please pray that we don't lose power. That's everyone's biggest fear.

Hope your power stays on, Allison. It's such a nightmare to be without power, especially when you have cold, cranky kids involved. At least you won't lose the food in your fridge, just put it outside, right?

Safe travels, Melissa! I can't wait to hear how your trip goes!
