Hi I'm Tia, my DF is Derrick and we have a LO named Alayna. Before we had Alayna we were saving for a trip to Japan and had everything planned out. She was our surprise baby and we had to use our saving but we are slowly starting to replan our trip. We plan to go for about a week or two and I'm torn on weather or not to take her with us. Before we planned on ruffing it and walking everywhere and sleeping in traditional Japanese inns with no western style beds. Now I'm not sure how to adjust our plan and if I'm ok with giving up our old plan. I think it would be a great experience for her though. She would be about 3 when we went. I was reading through the where have you been post and saw somone had been to Japan so I was hoping for some input. Thanks!

I haven't been but I would probably be keeping an eye on how the rebuilding goes over the next couple years to make a final decision. The Northern area was so devestated. I don't know where you were planning to go. I think she would be fine as long as that wasn't her first camping outdoor experience. I would start doing things like that locally so she was more used to it. That is just my opinion though. I hope you get to take your trip and have a lot of fun.

We planned to go to Kyoto and Tokyo which was pretty unaffected by the earthquake and tsunami. I think we have decided to take her but we will be doing a lot of walking before hand to prepare.

Hi! I know this post is a little older, but I have been to Japan so I thought I would comment. I went to Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Hirakata. I have to say, by far, Hiroshima was my favourite... the peace museum... incredible!

We stayed in a traditional japanese style hotel, a few streets away from the major train station in Kyoto. (We travelled by "shinkansen" ... the bullet train between cities, which was fantastic... went by Mt Fuji). The hotel was good and they had a whole heap of thick blankets if you did get uncomfortable. They have very good hostels in Tokyo as well, which I enjoyed staying at. It is easy to walk around Japan, and the train system is so good as well, and quite cheap.
