So I had my first OB appointment today. I went in to talk with the business office and meet with the nurse to go over history and have blood drawn. Everything was going fine, in fact better than fine. Until I had to have my blood work done. I HATE needles. If I don't lay down I usually pass out. BUT, I've been doing better with getting my blood drawn, in fact, so good that I got a little cocky today. I didn't tell them I needed to lie down. And then there was a problem with my vein, and thirty seconds later.......I was lights out. HOW EMBARASSING!!!!!!! I had my DS with me as well. When I came to, 4 people where hovering over me to make sure that I was ok. They got me a glass of water and took me into an exam room to lay down. Ugh. Not exactly the impression I wanted to make as a newly pregnant mom. And the worst part is.....they weren't able to get any blood so I have to go back tomorrow and get it done again, and lots of it because of some prior tests that were ordered. DH is going along and my OB sent the orders to the main lab in the hospital so I have to go there because in his words "they are better equiped to deal with you if you should pass out again". Gee, thanks.

I'm so sorry honey!! I've never passed out, but I AM a hard stick, so I get passed around from nurse to nurse to see who is "courageous" enough to try me.

Don't be too worried about it!

That must have been embarrassing, but try to think of it this way: you weren't the first and you won't be the last. Fainting at the sight of needles isn't that uncommon. I have a friend who's husband does!

I have always been offered to lie down so I bet it is more common then people say. I can't stand getting blood drawn because the nurse always seems to have a hard time and 1/2 the time they try in both arms. Sorry that happened to you.

Well, I survived my second go at having bloodwork done today. I made sure I laid down to have her do it. She had a really difficult time finding a vein to use which made me nervous. I really hope that she got everything the doctor ordered. I tried to ask since I knew they were combineing OB bloodwork with some tests he wanted run but she wasn't clear on what she was actually taking blood for. Ugh. I don't want to have to go back.
