Hi!

I'm new to this site. I just thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself. I'm a married woman with three sons. My husband lost his job a while back and we recently lost our home. My family is now living in a comparatively small apartment and my boys are all sharing one room. I just started a topic called "Foreclosure" in the tweens and teens section because I'm trying to figure out how to give eachof my kids space in their bedroom. I'm desperate for ideas if anyone has any. Thanks!

Hi and welcome! I'm sorry you've had a tough time recently. There are a ton of creative ladies around here who can probably give you lots of great ideas!

Thank you for your encouragement! I am really struggling with how to keep peace between my boys. They are all used to having their own rooms. The one they are sharing is generous in size, but I have no organizational abilities. It's embarrassing, really. Anyway, they are fighting all the time because one jumped on the other's bed, or breathed his air, or kept his reading light on while the other two tried to sleep. And, of course a reading light kept them up, but they can fall asleep with the volume turned all the way on the television. Anyway, I've found indoor tents and bed tents. Those are the best options I've identified at the moment. I'm just not sure I want the apartment to look like a campground. I really need help. I just don't know what to do here.

Welcome to JM - I'm so sorry things have been tough for you!

I don't have kids of that age, but the one idea I thought of is: are there two possible pairs within your boys, who get on fairly well together? With two pairs you could screen off down the middle of the room, either using hangings all the way across from the ceiling, or a mixture of tall cupboards and large screens. It would depend a bit where the door is - it would need to be sort of neutral, preferably towards the middle of the room. Then the two pairs would have to be only allowed in their own half.

With or without separating the room into two, to give a sense of "ownership", you could get each of your kids to design their own bed area, if you have the beds sort of in four corners. With any posters, pictures, etc they like on the wall, even shelves - and they could help to put them up.
