Hello ladies,
We've been ttc for almost one year now. I have gone through a slew of testing, including an HSG and appear to be functioning normally, despite my history of endo and losing part of an ovary to a cyst. MXdad got the results for his SA and I wondered if you all might be able to shed more light on how bad these scores really are. His count and motility are normal, its the morphology that is not right. I've read this can be the most important aspect. Let me know what you think.

This is WHO criteria:

Normal / MXdad
Volume >1.5 mL / 2.4 mL
Count >20 million / 111 million
Total Count >60 million / 266.4 million
Total Progressive Motile > 30 million / 146.5 million
Motility Score >150 / 223

Now this is where things get messed up.

Morphology

Sperm Heads Normal / MXdad
Normal >30%/ 17%
Large <5% / 4%
Small <5% / 10%
Tapered <35% / 56%
Immature <15% / 0%
Duplicate <5% / 0%
Amorphous <10% / 13%

Sperm Tails
Normal >65% / 49%
No Tail no normal value listed / 0
Short Tail “ / 5
Coiled Tail “ / 10
Bent Tail “ / 11
Two Tails “ / 3
Midpiece Defect “ / 22

I wish I knew what the pregnancy success rates were for men with morphology issues. Does anyone know where I can find that information?

Sorry I had this post all lined up nicely, but JM is not leaving it that way. Sorry if it is hard to read.

Welcome to the board! I'm Brandi, one of your cohosts. Me (31) and my DH David (32) have been TTC since Oct. 06. He has low count, & had surgery in June to hopefully fix the issue. We are waiting to have another SA to see the results. I really hope you enjoy being on the board. Jump right on in and start posting! Don't foget to fill out our member survey in the sticky section!

Ok, about your questions/concerns. There does seem to be some sort of issue with the morphology. His count is excellent, so that is a good thing. I don't know a lot of the research on stats for pg. with morphology issues. But I do know that you can get your DH on a regimen of vitamins to help improve his quality of spermies. You can have him on several different vitamins, or you can get something like FertilAid for Men. I've read a lot of testimonials, including women on JM, whose DH took vitamins & it improved count/morphology/motility. Just remember, that whatever you try to do, it won't take affect immediately. It takes like 92 days for new sperm to form, so what you start doing today, you won't see a potential affect until March.
If you still have questions, like what could be causing the issues, then I would definitely have DH make an appointment with urologist, because they will be able to shed some light on the issue. Good Luck & don't be a stranger!!

If I'm reading it right there are 30% normal sperm in the morphology... which although "low" is still considered normal... I'm not sure though.. you're post is pretty hard to read

Welcome mxmom!

I think your hubby is fine and that you will be able to get that BFP soon enough. There is a blog I read and he highlights that 15% and above for morph is considered very good. I'll try and dig it up for you...

Ah gotcha... A regimen of vitamins will fix that... try FertileAid or GNC Mega Men Performance and Vitality. It takes up to 92 days for new sperm to form though so you won't see the effects of it for a little while, I'd also recommend getting a second SA done to verify the firsts results.

Thanks for the advice April. We will check it out and a second SA is a good idea too.
