Anyone is welcome to post questions on this board. It's a public board and we're all here to support each other on what can be an incredibly frustrating journey. MFI is also a frightening diagnosis for many and our goal is to reduce some of that fear by providing knowledge and advice whenever we can.
I went back quickly through our posts and we are a slow board- no doubt about that. But in the past month, there have been at least 10 "newbies" or "non-regulars" who have posted questions on this board. Everything from "My husband has ED" to "We just found out we are dealing with zero sperm... what do we do?" Every single one of those posts was responded to. I know, speaking from personal experience, that whenever someone posts a question related to azoospermia or oligoospermia, I spend a LOT of time preparing very detailed responses for that person. Not because I want the recognition (who wants to be known as the MFI expert?) but because I know what these girls are going through and I want to help them by 1) reassuring that they are not alone, 2) letting them know it's not the end of the world, and 3) sharing the research that I have spent hours (days) collecting on these issues. Most of those girls never come back and that's ok; it's everyone's personal choice whether they want to stay. But that doesn't change my decision to want to help them.
The Sanctuary is just an area where very active members can post in private. We're not the only board that has a private sub-forum. Most of the TTC forums (except TTCwMA for some reason) have a private forum, and the requirements for access are similar - active membership for x days + a certain number of posts. It's nothing new.
As far as increasing traffic on this main board, I agree with Esmy - there's not much we can do other than continue to welcome newbies and respond to their questions, which as I mentioned before, I think we do very well. The reality is, MFI is a heavily stigmatized topic and some people will just never be comfortable sharing their story in a public forum. But if they do, then we're all here for them.
Just my two cents!
