ok so our primary physician is going to refer us to a specialist to help us.. I know that we are dragging our feet along but we've got SOO many other things going on right now....so we are JUST NOW trying to get in to see a specialist to find out why calvins count was the way it was......
Heres my question
I have been researching all these different places and have NO Idea what to choose...
Do we need a RE or a urologist?
Most of the urologists i've found specialize in inconsitancy and urinary issues...no male infertility ones. I have found one though but it's just a Urology center, not fertility.
Or..do we go to one of the fertility centers that work on everything..can they figure out what's wrong? Most of them specialize in female reproduction but they could probably help to....
Geez I dunno who the heck to call. What steps are we supposed to take?

hm..
I'd say if you can't outright find an urologist who specializes in infertility than get an appointment with a RE and see if they have any urologist who they refer out to.

Ditto: And if it takes a while to get in to see the RE I would consider contacting the offices direclty and asking them if "MFI is within there scope of practice," and if not, "who do they refer to?"

I am with April.
My RE refered us to our uroligist... who was someone that the RE works with.

We saw both. The urologist did DH's exam and bloodwork to rule out the major issues. Then he also did DH's biopsy. Our RE made sure to keep in close touch with the urologist so they could coordinate DH's surgeries, etc with my IVF cycle.

okay so i've narrowed it down to three guys. We live in the dallas/fort worth metroplex so you'd think it'd be easy to find one that specialized in male fertility. Maybe i'm being too picky researching how many years of experience they have..lol. So i'm going to have calvin call them and set up an appt with whatever one he likes. thanks girls. all this stuff always confuses me!

If you have an RE you like, you may want to call them and see if they have a preferred list of urologists - many do and it makes coordination of things so much easier to already have that relationship established.

Allright well appointment is set. We went with a man who seems pretty smart lol. He has all the publications out about his studies on male infertility so hopefully he can figure out whats going on.......
Should I go along to the appt?

I went with my DH... two minds to remember what's happening, especially since mine panicked for a moment during the, uh, 'exam' lol.
