ok so we met our urologist today. We brought him a copy of the sperm analysis results we had gotten from the lab he had went to. Apparently the lab calvin went to wasn't a very good one...

The urologist told us that those results don't really tell him anything. He said that even though those results say "no sperm seen", that there could still be sperm, but they didn't test for it. He said we didn't go to the right kind of lab that specifically does semen tests and that our results don't tell him much...So now he has to go to an Andrology Lab to really analyze his sperm He has to do two MORE semen analysis on 3-17 and 3-19 and then have a urine test right after. I guess this test will really tell us what were working with...

So pretty much all we did was set that up..and talked about a few things, and he had a blood test. We go back in 3 weeks to discuss the new results..so we'll see. He was really nice but I was amazed at how much the semen analysis would cost if we didn't have insurance!! It would be over 1,000 for the two semen analysis's!! Must be the best I guess...lol. That is exactly why we went to the little "clinical lab" down the street, lol. But now he has insurance so we can really get a look at those swimmers *prays that there are some!!*

Good luck. I don't know how SAs work but I *do* know it's very confusing to determine whether you have zero, one, a few, or thousands of sperm. Ours never came with a number but they eventually determined there were some sperm. Not enough to do IVF without the biopsy as a back up, but more than what the initial SA showed for sure. We ended up not even needing biopsy sperm on retrieval day It really is a crapshoot to a certain extent.

The urine test is to check for retrograde ejaculation btw. It's a common cause of zero/near-zero sperm conditions and I believe pretty easy to fix.
