I haven't heard any of you ladies here on this board or on other boards here on JM talk about it, so I'm wondering if this is unique to DH & I. Did any of you have to see a social worker/counselor with your fertility treatments? The center we are using is requiring that DH & I see their social worker before proceeding with using donor sperm. We don't really have a problem seeing one, and I for one want to make sure that DH is 100% on board with this. He says he is, and is who brought up the option, but lately when I try to get some specifics (like when do we want to start the process, waiting for the appeal or proceeding with us paying, etc.) he doesn't seem to want to talk about it. Maybe I'm just seeing (imagining) problems that aren't even there.

So, did any of you see a social worker/counselor? If so what types of things can I expect her to ask or want info about? We meet with her next Tuesday evening, April 28th.

Thanks!

I don't have any answers for you Becky, since we haven't went that route, but I'm sure that some of the ladies have some info for you!

Thanks, Brandi. I've not heard of anyone else doing this, and wasn't sure what to expect. Hopefully I'm not the only one . . .

At my clinic it is a requirement that if you do Donor sperm that you see the in-house conselor prior to treatment.

I think they just have it in place to be sure that everyone involved is ok with the decision, and is aware of the issues that can arise (emotionally and later in life with the child, etcetc).

You're totally not the only one. No worries.

We've never gone to counseling for infertility, but we're also not using donor sperm, I know that's different.. no worries Becky - I'm sure ya'll aren't alone

I'm glad to know I'm not alone. I can understand the need for it, just had never heard of anyone else going thru it before. Timing wise, it'll be right at the beginning of the next cycle so I guess we're definitely sitting out another cycle as they want that done first. I guess I'm getting used to delays in this roller coaster TTC journey.

Hey Becky...at my clinic they require this for donor sperm and for IVF without it they practically forced some group counseling(although you can refuse). Hope this helps...
