hello, my name is maggi (24) and dh is chris (28). I have been on the ttc with pcos and ttc with medial assistance board for about a year. I have had 4 cycles of clomid 2 of them including TI and 1 IUI and 1 canceled IUI. I was suppose to go Friday for my 2nd IUI but recieved a call from the doctor cancelling the IUI. They said the sample had less than 100,000 sperm and I chances of concieving with the IUI with that sample were 1%. I asked her why we were not told he had a low sperm count before and she said the last one which was done in June contained 2 million sperm. This is all new to me I still don't understand what the normal percent is or anything else. It's very shocking and very hard. She also told me that with this low of a sperm count chances are we will have to do IVF. So thrusday I have an appointment to talk to my RE to see what the next plan will be. If anyone can share your experiences that would be helpful because I don't know anything about male infertility I only know from my stand point with PCOS. Thank you

Sorry I can't help you out too much, my DH's first s/a came back with zero sperm. We are waiting to do the second s/a to "confirm" the results, so at this point I have no idea where I stand as far as ttc. We are hoping for the best, but trying to prepare ourselves for the worst. I think a "normal" amount of sperm is 20-80 million, depending on who you are talking to, some say 50 million is the lowest in the normal range, but what I've read seems like most places consider 20 million to still be normal as far as a s/a is concerned. I don't know what they need for IUI, I'm still really new to male infertility, so I only know what I've researched so far, but I wanted to say hi and welcome you to the board. I hope someone else with low sperm count can help answer your questions better!

Hi MaggiMay, I'm sorry you got bad news like that! It sounds like you are on track to find out what you need to do with your doctor, which is great, but of course it's still sad and hard to hear that your DH has a lower sperm count. If I read your post right, it sounds like his dropped as well, so probably your RE will want to try to get to the bottom of why. In the meantime, hang in there 'till Thursday! Good luck!

Hi Maggi and - I'm not sure what the numbers are supposed to be either. We found out this year that my DH is completely infertile so we never had any spermies to count in the 2 s/a he had. We're currently trying IUIs using donor sperm, and I know that they were very pleased with our donor's numbers - post thaw & wash have been @ 20million. I'm glad you have an appointment soon, and I hope you can get some answers, suggestions, and a plan for where to go from here. Good luck & keep us posted!!
