My husband and I have been TTC for 1 year. We have an appontment with an RE in 3 weeks. I initially thought that I was the issue since I have a very irregular cycle, with most cycles lasting more than 40 days. I have since discovered that my husband had hypospadia surgery when he was a baby. Does anyone have any experience with hypospadia and have any thoughts on how our plan of treatment might go?

I'm not familiar with hypospadia personally, but have heard of it. If your DH had surgery as a child, and if it was done successfully, then it "shouldn't" affect fertility. The best way to find out though is to have him do a s/a. Although embarrassing for the guys, it is one of the simplest and less expensive fertility tests.

Good luck & I hope you get some answers soon!!

Popping in to hopefully answer your question. My husband also had surgery, multiple surgeries actually, to repair hypospadia. He has been to the urologist who did a physical exam which found a varicocele (like a varicose vein in the testicles, where too much blood is in testicle & excess heat = lower sperm) Now, of course the urologist couldn't say whether the varicocele was caused from hypospadia surgery, but he said that varicoceles are very common. Since the hypospadia involves repositioning the urethra to come out at the tip of the penis, normally scar tissue can result. The only way you and your DH will be able to tell if there are any resulting issues, or if he has any unrelated issues, is by having a through exam by a urologist, along with a semen analysis. Hope this helps! Good luck!
