at the first urologist appt??? DH has his first appt with a urologist specializing in MFI, I figure with a zero count we need all the expertise we can get in figuring this out. We already got the paperwork to fill out, so I know they want his entire medical history and family history, but I don't know what else will come out of this appt. Will they do any tests that day or order tests to be done? I'm also curious, now that the ball is rolling is it going to be a long process to finding out what the cause of the zero count is or does that happen relatively quickly? Just curious what you girls have experienced with the urologist and trying to get a rough time line of whats going to happen... Thanks!

the urologist just felt his penis and had a discussion what went on the past 2 years at that time... and he gave DH a bloodwork slip to get bloodwork. we never did it cuz $$$$$$$$$$ we still have it... lol
sooo that's sums up what will happen at the urologist office.

With us, the urologist first met with us to discuss the medical history & our history of TTC. He did go over possibilities of what the zero count was from - it could be a physical blockage, missing the "vessel" (can't remember exact name) that would carry the sperm from testicles for ejaculation, genetics (as in our case), or other reasons. Our RE had already run some bloodwork, but the urologist of course ordered some more. He then did a physical exam of DH's equipment including the testicles, which was funny to see the look on DH's face when he told him to drop his pants. So, we left with the lab slip and made a followup appt for a couple of weeks later. Luckily for us, our insurance at that time covered all of this so money wasn't a factor and we immediately got the bloodwork done. I can't remember if your insurance covered this or not, hopefully it does.

Good luck, Aimee!!! I hope you get some answers soon!!

thanks ladies for your responses!

Becky, our insurance does cover it and I think Adam is at least close to his deductible, but either way it's only a $500 deductible.

I wasn't planning on going to the appt with DH, but do you think I should?

I went with DH when went to the UR

Dh didn't really know the technical stuff so I was there to answer all the questions about ttc. I also kept track of all of DH medical records w/ my records so I could look stuff up quickly.

DH wanted me to come, and also when I called to make the appt, they also preferred that I come as well. It's up to you & DH though and what is comfortable for both of you.

I went with my DH to about half of his appointments, I just don't like to be in there when they are doing the physical exam. I know my DH is already uncomfortable, and me being there just makes him more embarrassed...so I step out for that part...and I come back in when it's time to talk.
